AY, ANYWAY....IT'S ANDRICH AGAIN
By Rupert X Pellett
Ohio Arenacross Series - Round 12, 13 & 14
Marion Fairgrounds Indoor Coliseum
MARION, OH JAN 18-19-20
For two nights in Marion, it was
Steve 'The Animal" Andrich whipping all-comers as the
former Californian swept both nights of 125cc pro action at this
wintertime moto extravaganza.
Andrich, seated aboard a Greg Barenthin-tuned MPS Yamaha YZ 250 F,
was the sole master of the talented pack of 125 pro class racers.
As the rest of the field exclaimed
glee at Andrich not bringing a 250 to this event - Andrich
blistered his blue machine in
for both Friday and Saturday night's main event 125 money class
victories.
With competition like F&S
Suzuki's David Whitcraft, BWR suspension backed Scott Kuchler,
Dillion Watkins and Buckeye Powersports' Dickie Hoy - the field
was hot all weekend. While
Andrich was the man in Friday night's 125 main, Dickie Hoy blasted
his CR-450 F in with a nice
holeshot and then used his mastery of the whoops section to take
control of the 250 money race.
Scott Kuchler did the same thing in Saturday's feature, busting
out his new Honda and taking
the checkered flag, just ahead of second place David Whitcraft.
Sunday's pro classes were simply
owned by David Whitcraft. Even though series regular and
brother, Chris Whitcraft - also F&S Suzuki mounted - joined
the fray for the Sabbath, it
was David with both wins. In other racing action - the huge
gathering of amateur racers would
face an incredible group of competition, as they went to war at
this indoor race-track. Cody
Gang, of Logan, Ohio would have a truly exceptional weekend -
posting the wins in all three
days of 80cc junior class racing and then, posting two of three
wins in the 65cc 10-11 division.
His worst finish all weekend would be a second place in Saturday's
65 cc class race.
Derek "Diesel" Stinson
was on the money, too - the eager youngster strode his Cobra CM-50
In for all three days of 50 (4-6)
class wins. Nobody could match Nathan Skaggs speed or determination
in the 125 B or 16-24 age group classes - the Chillicothe, Ohio
native sang His Yamaha YZ's in
for all six moto wins - over the three days. Of mention, was pro
class regular Dickie Hoy's
sweep of the weekend's 25 plus 'A' class - the bus - driving,
construction foreman was on his
game throughout the three day event - snatching all the cash in
the old 'n fast guys group.
Performing well again at Marion was Lancaster native Kyle Cottrill
- he slashed his Kawasaki KX-65
quickly to the front in all three weekend 65cc 7-9 events in the
coliseum.
