Ohio Arenacross Series - Round 10 & 11

Located in the north-central area
of the Buckeye state, the Ohio Arenacross race series attracts
racers from all over, but it's mostly
locally based riders from AMA districts 11 and 12 that come
to do battle indoors at this Marion venue. Occassionally, riders
will drift down from Michigan
and Canada to compete, as well - with hardy racers from Illinois,
Indiana, New York , Pennsylvania, Kentucky and West Virginia
filling out the roster of winter mx'ers. Some
of the quicker young amateur motocross racers from Ohio turned out
for rounds ten and Eleven of
this Buckeye State indoor racing extravaganza, as Matt and Amy
Eastman, new owners of the
American Motosports promotional group, brought a weekend of indoor
- motocross back to the
North-Central Ohio burg of Marion. This Ohio Arenacross series,
which bounces around the state
from Jackson and Columbus up to Marion, hosts hundreds of racers
that desire some dirty action
on two wheels in the dead of winter. Lancaster's Kyle Cottrill,
formerly a fast 50-cc competitor
in district 11, has set his sights on the 65cc class, this weekend
he would go unbeaten, as he
whisked his new Kawasaki KX-65 in for both days main event wins
inside the jump-filled coliseum.
Curt Gaski, of Ravenna and Cameron Reas of Georgetown, Indiana,
would both ride well to be on
the podium both days, as well. Middleton, Ohio's Derek
"Diesel" Stinson, considered by
many to be one of the faster 50cc youngsters in the land, sailed
his Cobra and Yamaha machines to
a total of three wins over the weekend, as the likable youngster
laid down the law to the pack of kindergartners
and pre-schoolers. While Tyler "Danger Boy" Bowers and
Cody Reas went at in the 85cc
7-11 class all weekend, Zach "Attack" Ames would
manhandle the excitable pack of 12- 15
year old 85cc competitors - screaming his F&S Suzukis all the
while. Zach took both weekend wins
and placed well in the Schoolboy class, additionally. The 40 plus
class would witness brotherly battles
between the Canadian duo of Brad and Jeff Coles, Jeff won both
nights with Brad in the runner- up
spot, whilst Brad VanWinkle took third both days. All the money
over the weekend's pro class events
would fall inside the deep pockets of one David "PeeWee"
Whitcraft - David, older brother of series
race-winning regular Chris, would just flat smoke the field in all
four 125 and 250 pro class mains,
enabling the full time mechanic and part-time dancer to make some
van payments. Whitcraft, injured
and slowed most of the season, has been making a comeback of late,
as he and younger sibling Chris,
have been making their mark in district eleven for years - mostly
aboard their F&S Suzukis.
