KNOCK DOWN - DRAG OUT, FIGHTING RESUMES.....
By Rupert X Pellett
Ohio Arenacross Series - Round 7,8 & 9
Henderson Indoor Complex
JACKSON, OH DEC 7/8/9

More bar banging than you can shake a stick at - that's the kind of stuff this action-packed, American Motosports Arenacross races have been all about. Great, intense racing with some of Ohio's fastest racers exchanging blows over the rough and tumble indoor circuits provided by promoter Matt Eastman and crew.

Just after completing a huge weekend of racing in Columbus - the series returned to the southern Ohio venue near Jackson - where a former horse-show arena has been transformed into a raging indoor motocross extravaganza. While the stage is somewhat different, many of the players remained the same - as early series rivals Brad Strunk and Chris Whitcraft returned to the confines of this jump-laced building to gain an edge against one another in the Ohio Arenacross series. While the  two racers share a taste  for the same brand of motorcycle (Suzuki) and both enjoy the benefit of great talent - they possess entirely different characters and are extremely competitive during the furious laps they pound out on this artificial battlefield. Over the three days and six long feature races that they would go head to head in 125 and 250 pro, Strunk would gain a brief advantage in wins and points as he traded wins with F&S Suzuki's Whitcraft on Friday, won both classes on Saturday, then again split wins on Sunday with Whitcraft. Strunk's  record on the weekend would include four wins and two seconds, Whitcraft would post two pro class wins, three second spots and a third in the total of six 125 and 250 pro class mains. In amateur action, there were a bunch of  racers amongst the almost four hundred competitors that just had it going on all weekend, including F&S Suzuki's Steve Jones, the undisputed master of the 250 B class all weekend long and fellow F&S pilot Zach "Attack" Ames, unbeaten in the 85cc 12-13 class, all three days. The old 'n fast guys had a large turnout and some incredible racing - when the smoke settled on the weekend, it would be Brad VanWinkle posting the wins in the record books, with a domination in the 40 plus class. Rome, Ohio's Chuck Nicholson stormed the 30 plus division, while Jackson's own Mitch Warrens mastered the 25 plus 'B' class. The 25 plus 'A' class would see Brad Strunk again, Strunk, mounted on his Cycle Specialties Suzukis, would force Buckeye Powersports backed Dickie Hoy to take the back seat in this class in every moto.
