"Speedy G" Charges Hard At Henderson
By Rupert X Pellett
2005 American Motosports Arenacross Championship Series
Rounds 1/2/3
Henderson Horse Arena
Jackson, OH
Nov 19/20/21

Kawasaki supported Gavin "Speedy G" Gracyk was absolutely on the gas at this converted horse-show arena in southern Ohio this weekend, as the Blissfield native grabbed the golden ring and rode off as one of the top cowboys at this indoor fun-fest. With winter settling into the Buckeye State, motocross turned indoors as the American Motosports crew transformed a warm horse - show arena into a motocross park, as head promoter Matt Eastman twisted and packed the "World's best dirt" into a jump- infested showcase for the area's best motocross racers. Nearly three-hundred talented riders were on hand to turf up some horse dirt and " air it out " as this wonderful complex just outside Jackson, Ohio. Many of Ohio's hottest young expert and pro riders were in attendance as the fast and the furious were vying for better than four-thousand dollars in purse money, not to mention points in the AMS Arenacross Championship Series - a winter-long indoor motocross festival that runs through February at venues throughout Ohio. During Friday night's race action, the pro classes were all about a personal duel between the Kawasakis of Gracyk and the Yamahas of local rider Nathan Skaggs, as the two quickly found themselves battling for the lead in the 125 pro main. Going head to head through the whoops, Gracyk and his four stroke 250 Kawasaki seemed a little more consistent in the rough, as he was able to outpace Skaggs and his two-stroke 125 Yamaha, although Skaggs was able to keep a close second place behind "Speedy G" - until lappers got in the way. Gracyk would have a small cushion at the checkers with Skaggs in second and Honda mounted Nick Carroll in third. The 250 pro main would see another quick start by Gracyk, although Skaggs was having none of second - place as he would methodically set Gracyk up for the pass and then slowly pull away from Gracyk for the win, with Kyle Preston and his Suzuki rounding out the top three. Saturday night's pro mains would see much of the same action, as Skaggs took the 250 win after Gracyk experienced problems and Gracyk once again was master of the 125's. Sunday was all about Gracyk, as he took both pro mains, with Skaggs taking the runner-up spots. Zach "Attack" Ames, the young F&S Suzuki amateur superstar, having recently turned pro and joined the AMA's National Arenacross tour, was on hand Sunday after driving all night from Hampton, Virginia and promptly made both podiums aboard his
Ronnie Rehmert-tuned yellow machines.
