Pro's Pull Purse, Crazy Crowd Catty in Columbus

Offering up a ten-thousand dollar purse at this central Ohio venue brought out
a healthy gaggle of pro racers from all over – but none more than from
the Buckeye state, which seems to be hosting an overflow crowd of talented expert riders of late.
Though this race falls within the confines of AMA District 11, it was the Northerners
from upstate in AMA District 12 that ran off with most of the weekend’s cash – as
Kawasaki mounted Gavin Gracyk, Steel-City Yamaha backed David Hill and Kames
Sports rider Mike Katin battled hard against the likes of locals Nathan Skaggs,
Kyle Preston, Scotty Metz and Wisconsin’s Dave Oettel , to take most of
the AMS series cash over the three day period. Friday night would see
fireworks galore as Nathan Skaggs quickly established a crafty line
through the whoops, enabling him to escape from the pursuing Mike Katin
to take the 125 class win aboard his Spinechillers – backed YZ-125. David
Hill roosted off to a quick lead and let a small pile-up slow down the
furious posse behind him in the 250 pro class, as Katin flew into another
second place on the eve. Friday night really belonged to New Philadelphia’s Hill, as he took the
three hundred dollar dash-for-cash money home, as well. Saturday night was truly
about some wonderful and spirited riding from Sparta’s Mike Katin, as the veteran pro
slammed his Suzuki in for the 250 pro class win and also snagged the Dash-For-Cash
money, reportedly near six hundred American bucks, as many of the spectators chipped
in for the wild sprint-race. Katin would also finish third in the 125 pro main, as
Blissfield’s Gracyk was absolutely dominant in this class, wanting the win so badly that
he came over from the worst gate-position, snuck around the inside and then ran off
through the whoops with the lead and, eventually, the win. Sunday was Gracyk’s day too, as he stormed home with both the 125 and 250 pro mains, fighting off
rowdy youths - Zach “Attack” Ames and Levi Kilbarger to take the victories
and the exceptional purse home with him.
