Mighty Muddy Moto-Mayhem At Hartford “Pro-National”
By Rupert X Pellett
Hartford Independent Fair
Ohio County Fairs Motocross Championship Series – Round 15
Croton, OH
Aug 9
The rain came in two shifts at the
Hartford Fair, as round fifteen of this fair-race series kicked
off under humid conditions and with a large turnout of riders.
The first rain swept through with only minimal damage to the
track surface and race promoter Matt Eastman was able to get
things ready - and racing went on, although racers were looking
to the heavens to ensure there were not funnel-clouds amongst
the funnel-cakes at this very popular fair-cross event. With
better than five hundred riders signed up and most likely three
hundred still racing after the second soaking of the grounds
(midway through the show), the better than five-thousand
spectators were treated to same great racing and dozens of
slide-outs, slide-offs and awkward behavior, as the greasy track
made things difficult, even for the talented. Pro racer Jeff
Gibson brought his 50cc pitbike out to race, but was without the
proper weapon as he was overpowered by the faster, bigger
machines and was only able to muster a fifth-place behind winner
Kyle Hughes in the first heat of pit-bike action. Tim Haning was
the master of heat-two as he simply ran off from everyone aboard
his Dempsey Haning – tuned TTR, as the heavy-equipment
operator-brothers teamed up for another victorious moment. Kelly
Hall was absolutely spectacular in the women’s class, as the
off-road racer brought out her KTM 125 and scurried off with the
win, thanking dad / mechanic Dave Hall for the support
afterwards.
Running second was Christy King,
followed by Becky Lyss on her pinky Yamaha.
Best performance of the night has to
be Levi Keller, as the Suzuki mounted youth was able to slip and
slide his way to three class wins, handily steaming his way into
the 65cc win and two 85cc division victories, as well.
