"Hartford
Pro National" Rocks With Gibson Show
By Rupert X Pellett
Ohio County Fairs Motocross Championship Series - Round 16
Hartford County Fair
Croton OH
August 12
Even
though AMA National Motocross competitor Jeff Gibson travels
the circuit nationwide this time of
the year, the local racer often likes to make it back home to this
county fair motocross race, as he gets to put on
a show in front of the hometown folks and visit with family and
friends. Gibson, riding aboard his
Star Racing/ Bobby J's Yamaha was
quickly out in front in the 250 pro main here, although KTM
rider Michael Willard, making his
debut in the money class, stuck close
to Gibson for quite a few laps before Gibson was able to slip
away to the checkers. Back behind the
leaders, there was a furious fight
for third place, with Kyle Preston, Tony Robinson, Josh Hamilton
and John Wisenbarger all fighting over
the final podium spot. Wisenbarger
was able to get aggressive and finally take the third place
money aboard his Yamaha, with Robinson in fourth . The 125 pro
class was where the five-thousand plus spectators finally got to
see Gibson ride at his best and most
determined - as Gibson hit the dirt mound
and went down hard in the first corner with his borrowed CRF-
250 and would have to start dead last
and a half lap back from the leaders.
" Think I just grabbed too much front brake" explained
Gibson of the first turn wreck
- " I had to really work hard after that - the fans seemed
to enjoy me having to go hard - although there wasn't enough
time to win the thing…" . After
charging hard through the nine lap main, Gibson ended up passing
Jared Grabiel for third, with Tony "The Tiger" Robinson
taking the win, with Kyle Preston and his Suzuki in second.
This round sixteen of the Ohio Fair
Motocross Race Series, is often the
biggest event of the schedule, featuring over five hundred riders
and thousands of eager, onion-ring
munching fans packing the stands.
This annual race, getting bigger every year, is known to many
as the "Hartford Pro National" as many pro's participate
and it's the biggest event of the year
for many local motocross racers.
Another local rider having a great
night was Buckeye Powersports' Dickie
" Busboy" Hoy - Hoy, mounted aboard his Aaron "
Swifty" Madinger tuned
CRF-450 was having nothing of any competitor's nonsense
here - Hoy simply snuck away with both the 25 plus 'A' class
and the veteran's (30 plus ) group.
