Rogers Gets Old In Zanesville

Turning the quarter-century mark seemed to work out just fine for Ben “Tree” Rogers, as the Columbus-based rider rode his first twenty – five plus class in Zanesville in quite successful fashion. Rogers, competing sporadically in Ohio and AMA District Eleven over the last couple years, has risen to new heights with some off-season conditioning, as the bulldozer operator went all out here at the Muskingum County fair. Using a brilliant start method with his lanky legs, Rogers was able to quickly establish a lead over Terry Collins through the whoops, finally leaving the rest of the pack and sauntering on for the win. The 25+ class would see Collins comfortably in second, with Jamie Smith and Tim Kelly fighting over third, with Kelly taking it at the checkers. Former AMA national pro Mark Weaver was on his own out front in the 40 plus class, as the local “lad” was having no one permitted to pass him on his home-turf. Fellow fast and older gents Kenny Thomas and Bill Leake came in behind Weaver. Legendary pit-bike king - Willy Browning, sent his younger brother Eric to tear up the pit-bike class here in Zanesville, and he did quite well, taking the win and styling over the jumps in a sophisticated fashion. In Women’s Class racing, Rebecca Lyss was amazing, striking hard with her pink and purple YZF, the chiropractor’s kid railed her Yamaha Of Columbus backed 250 F in for the victory.
