Ames Tames Hartford “Pro National” Fair Race
By Rupert X Pellett
Ohio County Fairs Motocross Championship Series – Round 15
Hartford Independent Fair – Motocross Course
Croton, OH
Aug 10
Arenacross Superstar Zach Ames, of Prospect, Ohio was the man to
best at this “World’s Biggest Little Fair”, as he ran amok
in the two stacked pro class mains, here in northern
Licking County. An overflow crowd of more than five thousand
spectators and a hefty field of better than four-hundred racers
turned out for this event, which has slowly become one of Ohio’s
biggest motocross draws, with competitive riders registering in
from near and far away, now referring to this circus- sized
extravaganza – as the “Hartford Pro National”. Ames, aboard his
F&S Suzuki, would get heavily disturbed at the start of the 250
pro main, as Rushville’s Jesse Gustafson and his number 622
Honda CRF 450 steamed out to a nice holeshot. Tangled up
with backmarkers, Ames would have to sneak around the entire
field before encountering Gustafson, with two laps remaining.
Charging through the wicked whoops section mercilessly,
Ames would pass Gustafson and press on for the win. In the 125
pro main, Ames would have to track down the very-fast Fletcher
Shryock, of Newcomerstown, aboard his SHIFT racewear backed
Kawasaki, but Ames played no games in the mains as he gained the
reins with the many laps that remained. Joey Leadbeater, of
Gahanna, had a
great night of racing in Croton, after coming off a broken ankle
that would
keep him from competing at Loretta Lynn’s – Leadbeater peeled
off wins in
the 125 B class aboard his Suzuki , then jumped away from
everybody
aboard his BBR masterpiece in the second pitbike race.
In Vet class action, no one steps up at Hartford like Dickie
Hoy. Hoy, aboard his new KXF450, was having nothing to do
with dicing, as he danced away from all involved and
laughed all the way to the bank, depositing his tasty wins in
the 25 and 30 plus A classes.
