Metz Get Motoring At Jackson
By Rupert X Pellett
AMS Ohio Arenacross Championship Series - Round 1
Henderson Arena Complex
Jackson, OH

Scott Metz, a regular on the pro national tour and a competitor in many AMA Supercross main events - brought his brand of intense riding to this reconfigured horse arena and won a whole bunch of races. With cool fall weather blasting into the Buckeye state, this highly popular indoor series blasted off with over four-hundred eager racers prepared to battle over the next few months, as the series drifts between this Southern Ohio locale of Jackson, the centrally located Columbus rounds and the Northern Ohio events held in Marion. Metz, from the Cincinnati area, took his Suzuki RM's to five out of six possible pro class victories, winning the main events in Friday night's 125 and 250 pro class features, both of Saturday night's pro mains and the 250 pro main event on Sunday afternoon. " Thought I had 'em all" explained Metz, "but, on the first lap of Sunday's 125 main - I wrecked, breaking my clutch perch.

I still got eighth, but it took away my streak. I really want to thank my mechanic - Roth, my main squeeze - Traci, and all my sponsors; F&S Suzuki, Works Connection, FCR suspension, SPY goggles, No-Fear, Michelin Tires, TAG, Vortex, Zing, EK Chain, Moto-Tassanari, No-Toil, Traci Shepherd Racing, Snach Clothing and EVS!" Steve Cross, the only other rider to win a pro class race over the entire weekend, was also the victor in Sunday's plus 25 A class - as Cross, of Germantown, Ohio beat the formerly unbeatable Dickie Hoy - a regular winner in the quarter century club at these events. Of mention was the rides of Zach Ames and Zach Haning, the two Zachs won many a race over the long weekend and rarely lost. Haning races Yamahas for Buckeye Powersports and Ames, a very fast nationally ranked mini-star, is an F&S Suzuki standout. Ames was competing in Schoolboy and Mini-Senior, while Haning rocketed around the arena in the 250 B and 16-24 divisions.
