Go,
Go, Gibby - Jeffro Gets Jolly At Hartford Fair
By Rupert X Pellett
Ohio County Fairs Motocross Championship Series - Round 15
Hartford Fairgrounds
Croton, OH
Aug 7
Jeff
Gibson and his DFW backed KTM 125 made a mockery of the 125 pro
class at this highly - attended
fair, he then backed it up by winning the 250 money race, as well.
Billed as "The Biggest Little Fair In The World" , the
Hartford Independent Fair is one of Ohio's largest county fairs,
and with over five-thousand fans looking on and better than
five-hundred riders participating - this was one of the grandest
fair races of the series - so far. Returning mid-week from
spectating at Loretta Lynn's - Gibson strode
into the fairgrounds and went to work, using quick starts to jump
out ahead of the pack and flee.
Rob Bingman and his Yamaha actually holeshot the 125 pro moto, yet
Gibson made quick work of "Binger" and tore off through
the whoops at a super-human
pace, one that no one would match all evening. Impressive was
Jared Grabiel, he snuck into
second place and took it to the checkers, behind Gibson, just
ahead of third place Tony Robinson.
Grabiel backed it up with a great ride in 250 pro,
taking fifth aboard his Kawasaki, right behind Dickie Hoy . Hoy, a
local pro that rides out of the
Buckeye Powersports shop, ran rampant in the vet classes on
this action-packed eve, snatching the
25 plus A and the 30 plus classes with ease. The
Haning brothers were on the gas - as younger Dempsey Haning stole
the show in the pit-bike class,
while Tim held his ground in group two of the 125 B class,
stomping the field on his
very-trashed 250 F Yamaha. Once again, Josh Toney tore up a
couple races, spanking the Schoolboy
class and taking group one of the 125 B class. In
a bizarre twist on the eve, Carl Custard bested Curtis Freeze in
the 16-24 age group division - Custard finished second behind
Brian Beckholt - with Freeze taking third behind
Custard. Beckholt was able to keep the "frozen-custard"
combo behind him for the
victory.
